extradition to South Africa

Zurück zur Länderliste

In Germany, extradition to South Africa (Republic of South Africa) is based on the European Convention on Extradition, to which South Africa has ratified. Both sides, however, do not extradite their own nationals.
If, in a specific case, extradition to South Africa actually seems possible, provisional arrest for extradition can be imposed in Germany. South Africa is a member of Interpol and searches for numerous persecuted persons worldwide with an international arrest warrant.
Amnesty International reports (2015/16) that torture and ill-treatment by the police continue and that at least 145 cases of torture were reported in 2014/15 and that there were 244 deaths in prisons during this period.
