Court in Athens has declared inadmissible the extradition of turkish soldiers

Greece - no extradition of Turkish soldiers

With a second extradition request, Ankara seeks for the extradition of the eight Turkish soldiers who fled to Greece in a helicopter following a failed coup attempt in July 2016 and who applied for asylum. The Greek judiciary opposes extradition.

The regional court in Athens rejected the extradition on 4 May 2017 again in the case of two other soldiers because it is not certain that the men in Turkey expect a fair trial.

As before, still seen in Greece, that the soldiers in Turkey would have to face human rights violations and also torture.

In January 2017, the Supreme Court in Athens had already declared the extradition of all eight men to Turkey inadmissible.
